The Chairman of Funtua Local Government Area in Katsina State, Alhaji AbdulMutallib Sulaiman Goya, on Sunday handed over five kidnapped victims who regained their freedom following a peace agreement between bandit groups and the government.

The victims, all residents of the Maska area, were reportedly released at Sabuwa village after spending about three months in captivity.

Speaking during the handover to the Magajin Garin Maska, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, the chairman confirmed that no ransom was paid to secure their release. He explained that the peace initiative involved several local government areas, including Funtua, Faskari, Sabuwa, Dandume, Bakori, Danja, Kankara, Kafur, and Malumfashi.

Alhaji Goya said the victims were immediately taken to Sabuwa General Hospital for medical attention after their rescue.

“They were given injections, intravenous fluids, and other medications, and all the expenses were fully covered by the Funtua Local Government,” he stated.

The chairman expressed gratitude to God for the success of the peace accord, noting that the bandits had shown good faith by releasing the captives unconditionally.

“They have demonstrated sincerity by honouring their word,” he said.

However, Goya voiced concern over persistent attacks in some parts of Funtua, particularly around the Maska axis, despite the ongoing peace deal. He assured residents that his administration was engaging with stakeholders to sustain peace and build public confidence.

“My utmost priority remains the well-being of the people of Funtua Local Government. My doors are always open to constructive ideas and partnerships that will promote lasting peace and sustainable progress in our community,” he added.

The chairman also appreciated Governor Dikko Umar Radda, traditional rulers, security agencies, religious leaders, and community stakeholders for their continuous support toward restoring peace in the state.

In his remarks, the Village Head of Maska, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, thanked the chairman for his intervention and for settling the victims’ medical bills. He also urged residents to continue praying for peace and stability in the area.
