The Katsina State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies under the leadership of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 14, has announced the deployment of comprehensive security measures across Daura and other key areas in the state ahead of the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, expressed the command’s deepest condolences to the people and government of Katsina State, the Buhari family, and the nation at large. He assured that robust security architecture has been put in place to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free funeral for the late statesman.
A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, acknowledged Buhari’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s national development and emphasized the importance of maintaining order during this solemn period.
Similarly, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of 2,807 operatives in preparation for the funeral rites. State Commandant Aminu Datti disclosed this during a strategy meeting with senior officers at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Katsina.
According to Datti, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Abubakar Audi, expressed deep sorrow over the former president’s passing and ordered the deployment to guarantee security before, during, and after the burial.
Outlined operational strategies include heightened surveillance, intelligence gathering, community engagement, and close inter-agency collaboration. The deployment covers key locations including Daura—Buhari’s hometown—the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport, and the palaces of the Emir of Katsina and the Emir of Daura.
Both covert and overt personnel have been mobilized across all 34 local government areas of the state to protect government infrastructure at local, state, and federal levels.
Commandant Datti urged all personnel to act with professionalism and coordinate effectively with other security agencies to maintain peace and security during the national period of mourning.
