The Kebbi State National Assembly caucus has called for the arrest and prosecution of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, over what it described as actions likely to incite unrest during his recent visit to Birnin Kebbi.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central) said the caucus was reacting to a petition submitted by Malami on September 10. In the petition, Malami accused Governor Nasir Idris and others of bringing political thugs, foreign mercenaries, and illegal arms into the state.

Aliero dismissed the claims as “false, unfounded, and politically motivated,” and accused Malami’s entourage of instigating violence by allegedly attacking the All Progressives Congress (APC) state secretariat during the visit. According to the caucus, the incident led to clashes between thugs and party supporters.

While the allegations remain unverified, the caucus maintained that the situation warrants a thorough investigation. It urged security agencies to probe the matter and prosecute anyone found guilty of disturbing the peace.

Senator Garba Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South) also challenged Malami to present concrete evidence to support his allegations. “We will not accept claims made without proof,” he said, adding that national efforts to combat insecurity in the region should not be distracted by political conflict.

The caucus reiterated its full support for Governor Idris and called for continued calm and cooperation among residents. It also encouraged security agencies to focus on real threats and take appropriate action if any laws have been violated.
