Lagos Police Investigate Suspected Torture, Murder of Two Men Found in Canal
The Lagos State Police Command has opened an investigation into the mysterious deaths of two young men whose bodies were discovered early Tuesday in a canal along the LASU-Igando Road in the Iba area of Lagos.
The victims were reportedly found with their hands bound behind their backs and blue trash bags tightly fastened around their necks, raising suspicions of torture and possible suffocation prior to their deaths.
According to eyewitness accounts, the condition of the bodies suggested they may have been killed elsewhere and later dumped at the canal.
A local lawyer who resides in the area, and spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case, said the killings appeared to have ritualistic undertones.
“I was passing the bridge when I noticed a crowd gathered. The corpses were unusually clean, which made me think they were murdered at a different location. The way their hands were tied and the bags placed on their necks—very deliberately—points to torture,” the resident said.
Confirming the incident, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the bodies had been recovered and transported to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary, where autopsies will be conducted.
“The command has commenced investigations to ascertain the identities of the victims and uncover the circumstances surrounding their deaths,” Oluseyi said.
This incident comes just a week after five bodies were found along a riverbank in Oreta, Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, in a case later linked by police to ongoing cult-related violence.
As investigations continue, residents have expressed growing concern over what appears to be a disturbing pattern of violent killings in parts of Lagos.
