Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu, the representative for Aba Central constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has faced criticism for commissioning waste bins as a constituency project.

The waste bins were installed at Azuka Road in Ogbo Hill and Ekeoha Market on Ehi Road in Aba and were inaugurated by senior staff from the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) who attended as special guests. Supporters and friends of the lawmaker were also present at the event.

Critics have attacked Akachukwu on social media and radio programs, arguing that commissioning waste bins should not be considered a significant achievement. They believe the event did not warrant the large crowd it attracted.

However, environmental activist Chizobendum Elias defended the lawmaker, emphasizing that the health benefits of the waste bins were more valuable to the Aba community than distributing money or food items.

Elias noted that the same people who previously criticized Aba for being the dirtiest city are now opposing the legislator’s efforts to improve the environment.
