NAFDAC Dismantles N10 Billion Worth of Expired and Counterfeit Products in Gombe

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit products valued at N10 billion in the Northeast zone. 

According to NIGERIA NEWS 247, the items were incinerated in a public event held in Gombe State on Wednesday.

During the exercise, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by the North East Zonal Director, Mr. Kenneth Azikwe, emphasized the agency’s commitment to eliminating substandard and harmful products from Nigerian markets.

“NAFDAC is dedicated to protecting and promoting public health through rigorous standards, innovative practices, and international collaboration,” she stated.

Adeyeye explained that the destroyed items, which included food, drugs, and other regulated products, were confiscated by NAFDAC’s enforcement officers. She warned that if these products had reached consumers, they could have posed serious health risks.

The Director-General urged Nigerians to stay alert and report any suspicious products to help build a safer and healthier nation.

Mr. James Agada, the state Coordinator of NAFDAC, highlighted the agency’s firm stance against those prioritizing profits over public safety. He noted that the destruction of these products is a vital part of NAFDAC’s strategy to ensure that only quality goods are available to consumers.

Agada assured the public of the agency’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regulatory frameworks, promising enhanced surveillance and action against violators.
