NAPTIP Vows to Work with Agencies to Stop Child Trafficking in Niger State
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has pledged to collaborate with relevant agencies and stakeholders to eradicate child trafficking in Niger State.
Emmanuel Awhen, the agency’s state commander, affirmed NAPTIP’s determination to pursue offenders involved in child trafficking, child labour, and medical personnel implicated in organ trafficking.
Awhen highlighted the agency’s focus on ending the trafficking of underage girls for prostitution, a serious issue within the state. He called on the public to report any suspected cases of child trafficking to aid prompt intervention and prosecution.
“Our agency is relatively new in Niger State. We have engaged key security agencies including the DSS, Police, and Civil Defence, urging a united front against trafficking,” Awhen said. “We also appeal to the public to support us in making Niger State inhospitable to traffickers who export underage girls for prostitution outside the country.”
He underscored that NAPTIP enforces laws against organ harvesting and will take legal action against all offenders.
“We are committed to pursuing all perpetrators of child trafficking, child labour, and organ trafficking,” Awhen stated.
Additionally, he urged the media to partner with NAPTIP in raising awareness and supporting efforts to combat trafficking in the state, stressing that collaboration is key to success.
The commander also expressed concern over the rising number of school-age children, especially girls, working as housemaids, warning those responsible to desist or face stringent penalties.
