NBC Apologizes for EFCC’s Intrusion at Urban Radio Enugu
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued an apology to the broadcast industry, the people of Enugu State, and the listening public following the intrusion of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives into Urban Radio station.
In a statement released by NBC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Susan Obi, on Monday in Abuja, the Commission expressed dismay over the October 14 invasion of Urban Radio 94.5FM during a live show titled “PrimeTime.”
The statement noted, “The incursion, aimed at arresting the program’s presenter, Favour Ekoh, is seen as a violation of professional broadcasting ethics, particularly during a live broadcast. The method of the arrest is deemed inappropriate and regrettable, considering the significant role of the broadcast media in society.”
Obi highlighted concerns that the approach taken by the EFCC could have led to public disorder and mass panic. While acknowledging the EFCC’s efforts in combating financial crimes, the NBC conveyed heartfelt apologies to the listening public, the people of Enugu State, and the broader broadcast industry for the incident. She urged the public to remain law-abiding while the legal process unfolds.
Additionally, Obi encouraged media professionals to uphold ethical standards in their work.
Favour Ekoh was arrested by EFCC operatives in connection with an alleged N700 million Ponzi scheme, accused of misleading unsuspecting investors into a fraudulent investment scheme.
