The Niger State Judicial Service Commission (NJSC) has disengaged four judicial officers for repeatedly failing mandatory promotion examinations.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the NJSC Sub-committee on Information, Adamu Usman, during a press briefing held in Minna.

According to Usman, the affected officers—three from the High Court and one from the Sharia Court of Appeal—were relieved of their duties after failing promotion exams three consecutive times while remaining on the same rank.

“The commission resolved and advised them to leave the service in accordance with Order 8, Rule (4)(f) of the Commission’s Regulation 2025,” Usman stated.

In a separate development, Usman revealed that the Commission has constituted a four-member investigative committee to look into allegations of serious misconduct involving Mohammed Shaba, a judicial officer accused of circulating a disparaging video clip on social media targeting the Chief Judge of Niger State and the judiciary.

“The matter was reported by the Chief Registrar of the Sharia Court of Appeal. The Commission deliberated on the report and, in line with Order 6(1)(c) of the Regulation 2025, set up a sub-committee to conduct further investigations,” he said, emphasizing the importance of due process and ensuring the accused is given a fair hearing.

The actions signal a tightening of standards within the state judiciary, with the NJSC reaffirming its commitment to accountability and professional integrity across all levels of the judicial system.
