The Nigerian Army has refuted claims of mass resignation by soldiers due to corruption and low morale. In a statement issued by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the report was dismissed as baseless.

A news outlet had alleged widespread resignations over corruption and morale issues, but the Army described the report as misleading and a deliberate attempt to sow discord and tarnish the reputation of the Nigerian Army.

The statement emphasized that service in the Nigerian Army is voluntary, not conscripted, and personnel are free to disengage following proper procedures outlined in the Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service.

The Army also highlighted that the welfare of its personnel is a top priority under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, adding that the force remains highly motivated.
