Nigerian Troops Successfully Rescue 44 Kidnapped Victims from Katsina Forest
Security operatives have successfully rescued 44 individuals kidnapped by armed groups during a major clearance operation in Rugu Forest, Katsina State.
The rescue mission, which took place on August 19, was part of Operation FANSAN YANMA and involved a coordinated effort by the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Civil Watch Corps, local vigilantes, and aerial support from the Nigerian Air Force.
Sources within the security agencies revealed that the operation specifically targeted bandit hideouts in Kaigar Malamai, a border settlement within Rugu Forest. Several camps used by the bandits were dismantled during the raid, and all hostages were freed without injury.
Among the rescued victims were three individuals from Kano State and 41 residents of Katsina State, hailing from Kankia, Charanci, Matazu, Kusada, and Dutsin-Ma local government areas. The group included elderly men, women, children, and entire families.
Following the rescue, the victims were taken to General Hospital in Dan-Musa for medical evaluation and care, before being handed over to local government officials.
Security forces have since stepped up patrols in the area to prevent any resurgence of criminal activities.
