NiMet Forecasts Rainy and Thundery Weather with Flood Risks Across Nigeria
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted rainy and thundery conditions across several parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday. Southern and central regions are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning.
NiMet has urged residents, especially those in flood-prone and low-lying areas, to take necessary precautions. The agency warned that continuous downpours could overwhelm drainage systems, leading to flash floods, waterlogging, and potential threats to life and property.
Residents near rivers and in urban areas with poor drainage are advised to stay alert and follow safety instructions from local authorities. NiMet also called on government agencies and emergency responders to prepare for quick action during the rainy season, which typically runs from April to October.
Farmers and outdoor workers have been advised to adjust their activities accordingly, while motorists are cautioned to drive carefully on wet and slippery roads to avoid accidents.
