NiMet Forecasts Three Days of Thunderstorms and Rain Starting Sunday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rain across the country from Sunday to Tuesday.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, thunderstorms are expected on Sunday with rain over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Kebbi, Kaduna, Gombe, and Yobe states in the morning. Thunderstorms are anticipated over the entire northern region later in the day, with rain in the North Central region in the morning.
Moderate thunderstorms with rain are predicted for parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Benue, and Kogi states. Intermittent rains are expected in the morning over Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta states. In the afternoon and evening, intermittent rains are anticipated over Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa states.
On Monday, NiMet forecasts morning thunderstorms with rain in Kebbi, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba, and Katsina states. Moderate thunderstorms are expected later in the day in Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, Zamfara, Yobe, Adamawa, and Katsina states. Rain is anticipated over the Federal Capital Territory and Plateau states in the morning, with intermittent rains in Edo, Rivers, and Delta states and cloudy skies elsewhere in the southern states. Later in the day, moderate to intermittent rains are expected over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, and Rivers states.
On Tuesday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms with rain in Yobe, Adamawa, Borno, and Taraba states. Thunderstorms are expected over the entire northern region later in the day, with rain over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Kwara states in the morning. Cloudy skies are anticipated over the remaining states. In the afternoon and evening, intermittent rains are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Niger states. Morning rains are anticipated in Edo, Delta, Imo, and Anambra states, with cloudy skies in the rest of the southern region. Later in the day, intermittent rains are expected over parts of Ondo, Edo, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa states.
NiMet advises the public to take precautions as strong winds may precede thunderstorms, and to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities.
