NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms and Rainfall from Monday Through Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across Nigeria from Monday through Wednesday.

On Monday, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected in Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi states, particularly in the morning. The northern region will experience isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain throughout the afternoon and evening, with flash floods likely in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe.

In the central region, Monday morning will be characterized by cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine and moderate rainfall over Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Benue states. Thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected across much of the region later in the day.

The southern states including Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River will see moderate rainfall and cloudy skies on Monday, with rainfall expected to increase later in the day.

On Tuesday, the northern region will experience cloudy skies with sunshine intervals, along with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa states. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rain are forecast over Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba.

The central region will have cloudy skies with sunshine intervals on Tuesday morning, with moderate rain over Kogi, Niger, FCT, Kwara, and Nasarawa. Thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected later in the day across Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.

In the south, Tuesday morning will bring cloudy skies and chances of moderate rain in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta, with light to moderate rains spreading across the region later in the day.

By Wednesday, the northern region will see cloudy skies with sunshine intervals in Sokoto and Zamfara, with slim chances of thunderstorms and light rain. In the afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto.

The central region will have cloudy skies with sunshine intervals on Wednesday morning, with light rain in the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger. Thunderstorms with moderate rain are forecast in Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger later in the day. The southern region will experience cloudy skies and moderate rainfall throughout Wednesday.

NiMet has urged motorists to avoid driving during heavy rain and farmers to refrain from applying fertilizers or pesticides ahead of rainfall to prevent nutrient loss. Residents are advised to secure loose items, unplug electrical appliances, and avoid tall trees during storms. Airline operators are encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning.
