NiMet Forecasts Widespread Thunderstorms, Rain Across Nigeria on Thursday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

In its daily weather outlook released on July 9, NiMet stated that the northern region will experience morning thunderstorms with light to moderate rain in areas including Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, and Bauchi. Other northern locations are expected to have partly cloudy skies.

By afternoon and evening, stronger weather activity is anticipated, with moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms likely to hit Bauchi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno, accompanied by strong winds.

In the North Central region, early morning thunderstorms and light rain are expected in Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, and Niger. As the day progresses, moderate rainfall is forecast across the FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Niger, and Plateau.

Southern states will begin the day with cloudy skies and light morning showers in areas such as Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. These will give way to moderate rainfall across most of the southern region in the afternoon and evening hours.

NiMet has urged the public to remain cautious, warning of the possibility of flash floods, strong winds, and localized disruptions due to the expected weather conditions.
