The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has dissolved the leadership of its Edo State Council, citing unethical conduct, anti-union activities, and gross constitutional breaches as reasons for the action.

The dissolution, effective from Monday, August 11, 2025, was conveyed in a letter to the Minister of Labour and Employment by the NLC’s Acting General Secretary, Benson Upah.

“This action became imperative due to unethical behaviour, anti-union activities, and flagrant violations of the Constitution and rules of Congress by the now-dissolved leadership,” the letter stated.

In the interim, the NLC national leadership has constituted a five-member caretaker committee to oversee the council’s affairs and supervise preparations for fresh elections.

  • Orein Charles Uwanle (JUSUN)

  • Nwaneli Thankgod (MWUN)

  • Augustine Ekanem (NUCFRLANMPE)

Upah confirmed that the interim team has been mandated to manage the state council’s operations and ensure a smooth transition leading to the election of new officers.
