‘No Deportation Threats Can Affect Me,’ Canadian-Nigerian Woman Who Threatened Yoruba, Benin People Declares
Canada-based Nigerian woman Amaka Patience Sunnberger has dismissed concerns about arrest or deportation following a request from the Nigerian House of Representatives for her prosecution in Canada. The House urged the Canadian government to take legal action against Sunnberger for allegedly inciting violence and genocide against Yoruba and Benin people.
In a viral video circulating on X.com, Sunnberger addressed the issue, asserting that her Canadian citizenship shields her from such threats. She emphasized that Canada’s legal system differs significantly from Nigeria’s, where arrests can occur without due process. She stated, “Someone sent me a message saying I’ve been arrested and that they want to deport me, with my passport? I’m a Canadian citizen. Look at me now, I’m at home—why would I lie?”
The controversy erupted after a video surfaced on Tuesday showing Sunnberger making threatening statements against Yoruba and Benin people during a TikTok virtual meeting.
Claiming residence in Ontario, Canada, Sunnberger had vowed to harm Yoruba and Benin individuals, sparking outrage and prompting the Nigerian House of Representatives to demand her prosecution. The House has formally requested that the Canadian government investigate and act against her comments, which they argue breach both international and Canadian laws.
