Okpebholo Approves N914m Payout to Edo APC Youth Leader Over Demolished Hotel
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved N914 million as compensation for the demolition of Mr. Tony Adun’s hotel—known as Kabaka Hotel—who is the State Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The hotel, officially named T. Latifah Hotel and Suites, located in the Ugbor area of GRA, Benin City, was demolished in February 2020 by the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki for allegedly being built on government land originally belonging to a public primary school.
The approval follows a court judgment in favor of Tony Adun. Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, said the payment decision was made at a recent State Executive Council meeting and reflects the current government’s commitment to upholding court rulings.
In a viral video from June 2025, Kabaka publicly thanked Governor Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, for promising to rebuild his hotel as a “Democracy Day gift.”
Notably, a Benin High Court had earlier, in October 2019, issued an injunction restraining the Obaseki government from demolishing the hotel, though it was eventually taken down.
