The Osun State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has embarked on a fresh strike, citing unresolved issues related to staff welfare and delayed promotions.

As earlier reported by NIGERIA NEWS 247, the industrial action follows a directive issued by JUSUN Chairman, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, in a communiqué released after an emergency congress held on Friday, September 19, 2025.

According to the union, the Osun State Judicial Service Commission—led by the Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo—has consistently failed to respond to letters, dialogue requests, or the union’s ultimatum.

In a joint statement signed by Chairman Idris Adedayo Adeniran and Secretary Olaniyan Akeem Olatunji, the union announced that the strike would take effect from Monday, September 22, 2025, and involve a total withdrawal of services by judiciary staff across the state.

The leadership recalled a previous industrial action that lasted over three months between 2023 and 2024, which was only suspended after the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).

“Despite our formal letter dated September 3, and a three-day ultimatum issued on September 16, the Judicial Service Commission has failed to engage with us,” the statement read.

JUSUN expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) branches in Osun State for stepping in to mediate. The union acknowledged the NBA’s efforts to facilitate dialogue with senior legal stakeholders who could influence the Chief Judge.

However, due to the Commission’s silence, JUSUN has directed all judiciary staff—including drivers, heads of departments, registrars, and station coordinators—not to report to work until the dispute is resolved.

“This strike will continue until our demands are meaningfully addressed. We call on all judiciary workers to remain united in this collective action to safeguard our rights and welfare,” the union stated.

Key demands outlined by JUSUN include:

  • Immediate implementation of promotions for 2024 and 2025.

  • Sponsorship of staff for National Judicial Institute (NJI) training programs.

  • Improved general welfare and working conditions.

The union also pointed out that other ministries and agencies in the state had already benefited from similar approvals, and insisted the judiciary must not be excluded.

A visit to the State High Court in Osogbo revealed that the premises were locked, with no activity. The Rent Tribunal at Oja-Oba, Osogbo, was also closed, with courtrooms under lock and key.
