Peter Obi Urges Nigerians to Overcome Hate and Tribalism Following Threats Against Yorubas and Edo People
Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi has denounced the Canadian-based Nigerian, Amaka Sunnberger, for her call to poison Yoruba and Benin people.
Obi urged Nigerians to come together and resist the forces of tribalism and hate that threaten national unity. Sunnberger had made the threats against the Yoruba and Edo communities in Canada via TikTok.
In his reaction posted on X, Obi stated: “I strongly condemn the hateful statements and actions made by a Nigerian woman residing in Canada against fellow Nigerians from different ethnic backgrounds. Such divisive rhetoric has no place in our society.
“We must unite as Nigerians and focus on our common challenges, rather than letting tribalism and hatred divide us. I have always opposed the fragmentation of our nation along tribal, religious, or political lines.
“What does our country gain from tribal or religious bigotry? Does it help us address critical issues like health, education, or poverty? Does it lower the cost of essential goods such as bread, rice, or yam?”
