Police Tighten Security in Imo State Ahead of President Tinubu’s Visit
Security has been heightened across Imo State in preparation for the visit of President Bola Tinubu, with law enforcement agencies assuring residents of a peaceful and orderly event.
In a statement released on Monday, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, said the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has intensified measures to ensure a hitch-free visit.
According to the statement, security personnel have been strategically deployed to all entry and exit points of the state, as well as along the route from Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport to Owerri Metropolis and other local government areas.
“Route lining and robust security coverage have also been activated at all designated venues of the Presidential engagements,” Okoye said.
To reinforce public confidence and deter criminal activity, Operation Show of Force and visibility patrols have been launched across all three senatorial districts of the state.
In coordination with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), traffic wardens have also been deployed to key traffic hotspots to ensure the free flow of vehicles and ease of movement throughout Owerri and its environs.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, assured residents and visitors of their safety during the President’s visit. He urged the public to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel, and adhere to traffic diversions and other temporary arrangements put in place.
The Command also issued a stern warning to individuals with criminal intent, stating that all security agencies remain alert and fully prepared to deal decisively with any attempt to breach the peace.
“Anyone caught engaging in acts capable of undermining the security of the state will be promptly arrested and prosecuted,” the police warned.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency contact lines.
