Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has condemned the deaths and injuries resulting from road traffic accidents, noting that 2,776 people were killed and 16,309 injured between January and July this year.

At the launch of the FRSC Mobile App and National Crash Reporting Information System (NACRIS) in Abuja on Thursday, Akume highlighted that 5,081 fatalities and 31,874 injuries were recorded from January to December last year. He emphasized that the new app aims to raise awareness and educate drivers and passengers about road safety.

Akume expressed confidence that the app will improve emergency reporting, identify hazardous areas, monitor speeding, and allow users to check the status of their vehicle documents.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed noted that the FRSC Mobile App includes features to alert users to road safety issues such as speeding and unsafe driving, and to verify vehicle documentation. He believes the app will significantly reduce road traffic injuries and fatalities.

Mohammed also pointed out that the FRSC is committed to evolving its operations in line with global technological advancements. The NACRIS project, he added, is focused on improving crash data collection and reporting.

House of Representatives Committee on FRSC Chairman, Abiodun Adeshida, stated that the new app and ongoing legislative efforts to update the FRSC Act are steps toward modernizing road safety measures and aligning with 21st-century standards.
