Sanwo-Olu Warns Against Attacks on LASTMA Officials, Vows Legal Action
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on assaults against officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), warning that offenders will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Speaking through his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, at the Second Lagos Traffic Conference held Tuesday to mark LASTMA’s 25th anniversary, the governor emphasized the state’s commitment to protecting its traffic enforcement personnel.
Themed “Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos Roads: Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations,” the high-level gathering celebrated the agency’s two-and-a-half decades of service and addressed evolving urban traffic challenges.
Sanwo-Olu praised the dedication and courage of LASTMA officers, acknowledging the difficult and often dangerous conditions under which they operate.
“Your uniform stands as the thin yellow line between road order and chaos. Your courage, professionalism, and resilience are at the heart of traffic safety in our city,” he said.
The governor also paid tribute to officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing them as “heroes whose sacrifices will never be forgotten.”
Looking ahead, Sanwo-Olu revealed plans to transform LASTMA into a technology-driven agency. He highlighted upcoming investments in Artificial Intelligence-powered traffic systems, automated number plate recognition, and drone surveillance, all aimed at improving traffic flow, real-time monitoring, and emergency response across Lagos.
The conference brought together transportation experts, law enforcement, urban planners, and private sector stakeholders to chart the future of traffic management in Nigeria’s most populous city.
