National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has said that President Bola Tinubu inherited a deeply troubled administration—an indirect reference to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government—and emphasized that restoring stability in the country will take time.

Speaking during a security stakeholders’ meeting at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, Ribadu acknowledged the suffering caused by ongoing violence and assured the people of the government’s commitment to restoring peace.

“In terms of security, we’re actively addressing the issues. It’s easy to cause harm, but rebuilding takes time,” he said.

Ribadu expressed solidarity with the people of Benue amid a series of renewed attacks, assuring them, “We will overcome this. The entire country stands with you. This is a difficult time for all of us, but you have our full support.”

Highlighting Benue’s strategic role in national security, Ribadu pledged that the government would intensify efforts to bring lasting peace to the region. “Benue is a critical state in Nigeria. We must ensure its stability. The governor is doing well, and we’re here to support him,” he stated.

He also praised the efforts of the military and security forces, while noting the logistical limits of nationwide deployments. “Our armed forces are performing well. It’s not realistic to have security presence in every village. What we need now is unity and an end to politicizing these tragedies—that’s how we’ll restore peace.”

Ribadu stressed that the Tinubu administration has made significant strides in addressing security challenges inherited from the previous government. “We came in at a very low point. Things have improved. Violence has declined significantly, but solving these issues takes time. We are confronting them head-on.”
