Umahi Voices Disappointment as Former Allies Shun Him Despite Past Support
Minister Umahi Expresses Disappointment as Former Allies Distance Themselves
In Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Minister of Works, David Umahi, lamented that many individuals he supported during the 2023 general elections now avoid him. Speaking with journalists, Umahi revealed that even National Assembly members whom he aided in securing positions are among those who shun him, although he remains unfazed by their actions.
Umahi singled out Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi as the only one openly acknowledging their relationship, attributing others’ reluctance to potential disapproval from the state governor, his successor. However, Umahi asserted that the governor himself acknowledges Umahi’s pivotal role in his ascension to power.
This disillusionment has prompted Umahi to shift away from grooming political proteges, opting instead for political companionship. He pledged his unwavering support for the governor, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and unity among leaders.
Umahi dismissed the notion of engaging in conflicts with his successor, citing his gratitude for God’s blessings and his resolve to uphold harmony. He affirmed his commitment to supporting the governor, Nwifuru, for eight years, applauding the governor’s ability to unite the state’s leaders.
Reflecting on his political journey, Umahi expressed no regrets about endorsing the governor as his successor, acknowledging the governor’s loyalty during Umahi’s transition to the APC. Umahi’s political trajectory includes serving as a senator and governor of Ebonyi State, with a tenure spanning from 2011 to 2023.
