Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid tribute to two prominent elder statesmen from Katsina State, Alhaji Ahmadu Kurfi, the former Executive Secretary of the Federal Electoral Commission (FEDECO), and Ambassador Ibrahim Zakari, the former Director General of the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA), who recently passed away at the ages of 93 and 81, respectively.

During his visits to their families, Shettima expressed his deep sorrow at their loss, acknowledging the invaluable contributions each of these men made to Nigeria’s development.

On his visit to the Kurfi family residence in Katsina, the Vice President conveyed condolences on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Reflecting on the passing of Alhaji Ahmadu Kurfi, Shettima described him as the “last of the great titans” of his era.

He noted that in African culture, the death of such an elder is seen as the loss of a vital piece of history. Shettima offered a heartfelt prayer for Kurfi’s soul, asking Allah to grant him eternal peace and reward him with the highest place in paradise, Aljannah Firdaus. He also prayed for the strength and fortitude of Kurfi’s family and the people of Katsina State as they mourned this monumental loss.

Later, the Vice President visited the family of Ambassador Ibrahim Zakari, where he again spoke on behalf of President Tinubu to offer condolences to the Zakari family, the Katsina Emirate Council, and the people of Katsina State.

Shettima praised Zakari for leading an “eventful life” that was worthy of emulation, noting that his contributions to Nigeria, especially in the areas of diplomacy and national security, were exceptional. The Vice President emphasized that while Zakari’s death was a significant loss, it should be seen as a celebration of his life and accomplishments. He once again offered prayers for Zakari’s soul, asking Allah to grant him eternal rest and the reward of Aljannah Firdaus.

He acknowledged Kurfi’s pivotal role in electoral administration during the Second Republic and Zakari’s leadership of the NIA, which played a crucial part in safeguarding the nation’s security and interests.

Shettima’s visits served not only as an expression of sympathy but also as a recognition of the significant legacies left behind by these two distinguished elder statesmen. The Vice President’s remarks underscored the importance of honoring such figures who shaped the history of the nation through their service and dedication.
