Former Senator Shehu Sani Rejects US Plan to Deport Venezuelans to Nigeria

Shehu Sani, a former Senator who represented Kaduna Central in the last Assembly, has strongly opposed the reported plan by the United States to deport Venezuelan nationals to Nigeria.

According to Nigeria News 247, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, revealed on Thursday that the US government has been pressuring Nigeria and other African countries to accept deportees from Venezuela.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Tuggar stated that Nigeria might not be able to accommodate these prisoners.

Reacting to the development, Shehu Sani took to his official X account to insist that Nigeria must not provide refuge for Venezuelan prisoners either now or in the future.

He maintained that while it is acceptable for the US to repatriate Nigerian prisoners back to Nigeria, the same cannot be said for Venezuelans.

“If the US wants to send Nigerian prisoners in US jails back to Nigeria, that is okay and should be accepted,” Sani wrote. “But we don’t want Venezuelan prisoners in our country, and there should be no space for them now or in the future.”
