Niger State Government Holds Mass Burial for Victims of Fuel Tanker Explosion
The Niger State government has conducted a mass burial for victims of the petrol tanker explosion that occurred in Essa village, Katcha Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim, special prayers were offered during the burial for the repose of the deceased and for the quick recovery of those injured in the tragedy.
The state government has also approved comprehensive, free medical treatment for survivors of the incident.
The statement revealed that about 50 people sustained varying degrees of injuries — including burns and inhalation-related complications — and are currently receiving medical attention in various hospitals.
Following a visit to the scene and hospitals by a government delegation led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Murtala Bagana, the government announced the provision of ₦10 million worth of drugs and medical supplies to the hospitals treating victims. It also made cash donations to affected families.
The state expressed appreciation to the management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Bida, for its prompt response, as well as to the State Ministry of Health, Emergency Response Teams, and the Katcha Local Government Authority for their coordinated rescue and medical efforts.
The government further urged the Federal Government to expedite repairs on all federal roads in Niger State, noting that the poor condition of the Jebba–Mokwa–Bida–Agaie–Lapai–Lambata road contributed to the tragic accident.
