Sanwo-Olu mourns as ex-UK envoy, Christopher Kolade, dies at 92
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described the death of elder statesman and boardroom icon, Dr. Christopher Kolade, as a monumental loss for Nigeria.
Dr. Kolade, a respected broadcaster, diplomat, and corporate leader, passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 92.
In a statement released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu paid tribute to the late Dr. Kolade, calling his passing “the end of an era” and a deep loss not only for Lagos State but for the entire nation.
The governor celebrated Dr. Kolade’s lifelong dedication to integrity, excellence, and good corporate governance, saying his leadership in both public and private sectors will continue to inspire generations to come.
“On behalf of my family, the Lagos State government, and its people, we honor the life and legacy of a legend — a revered boardroom guru and former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom — Dr. Christopher Kolade, whose impact will echo for years,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He highlighted Dr. Kolade’s exceptional contributions as an educator, technocrat, and administrator, recalling his leadership roles as Chief Executive and Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, as well as his distinguished service as Nigeria’s envoy to the UK.
“The legacy of Dr. Kolade is unforgettable, marked by his extraordinary service to humanity, his community, and the nation,” the governor added.
Sanwo-Olu also praised the late diplomat’s unwavering faith and commitment to ethical leadership, describing him as “a blessing to his generation” and “a shining example of integrity and honour.”
He extended sincere condolences to Dr. Kolade’s family, friends, and colleagues, praying for peace for his soul and strength for his loved ones during this difficult time.
“May the Almighty grant Dr. Christopher Kolade eternal rest and comfort all who mourn his loss,” Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded.
