Tragedy Hits Oyo College of Agriculture as Deputy Registrar, Rahman Onike Dies
The Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora, is mourning the loss of its Deputy Registrar for Students’ Affairs, Alhaji Rahman Onike, who passed away on Thursday.
Onike, a native of Oyo town, reportedly became ill shortly after delivering a lecture on campus. He was immediately rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention but was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The sad news was officially confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Opeyemi Olawore, on behalf of the Rector, Professor Akinola Akinlabi.
“It is with a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of Almighty Allah that the Rector, Professor Akinola Akinlabi, announces the death of a highly resourceful staff and seasoned administrator, Alhaji Onike Rahman,” the statement read.
According to the institution, Onike joined the college in 2008 as an Administrative Officer II and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Registrar. He was described as a dedicated and committed member of staff who made significant contributions to the development of the institution.
Professor Akinlabi extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues, students, and the entire college community, describing his death as a “colossal loss.”
Alhaji Onike was an alumnus of Saint Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo; the University of Ibadan; and Olivet High School, among others.
