2027: I will consider PDP-LP merger if the objective is to build a better Nigeria – Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s potential presidential candidate for 2023, has discussed the potential merging of the LP with the Peoples Democratic Party.

In a recent interview on NoireTV-GlobalBlackTV, which was uploaded to YouTube last Saturday, Obi also shared his thoughts on the idea of receiving support from Atiku Abubakar as a Southeast candidate in the 2027 presidential election.

In response to the interviewer’s query, Obi expressed appreciation for Abubakar’s remarks regarding potentially backing him as a South-East candidate.

I appreciate and am thankful for his comments, particularly his assurance to support me if the presidential ticket is allocated to the South East, stated Obi.

Obi made it clear that his main focus is not on personal ambition or political gamesmanship, but rather on the welfare of Nigeria and its citizens.

I’m not eager to become president; I’m eager to witness Nigeria thrive, particularly for the disadvantaged, as we possess abundant potential, he affirmed.

Regarding a potential alliance between the PDP and LP, Obi expressed willingness to consider it if the aim is to enhance governance in Nigeria and unleash its vast capabilities.

If the merger can lead to effective governance in Nigeria and tap into all resources that can improve our country, count me in, he declared.

Obi made it clear that he is not interested in participating in mergers or alliances for the sole purpose of gaining power or winning elections.

He firmly stated that he does not support or want to be involved in any efforts aimed at using mergers for electioneering or capturing states.

Emphasizing the significance of unity and collaboration among people and political parties, the former Anambra State governor underscored that such unity should only be pursued with the goal of improving Nigeria.

Whether it occurs within political parties, among individuals, or at any other level, Obi highlighted the necessity for coming together to contribute towards building a better future for Nigeria.
