2027: Only Atiku-Obi Joint Ticket Can Defeat Tinubu – Pastor Giwa
Senior Pastor of The Second Coming of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa, has stated that the only viable political coalition capable of unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections would be a joint ticket featuring Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking with Nigeria News 247, Pastor Giwa emphasized that the coalition’s chances of success hinge on Peter Obi stepping down for Atiku to emerge as the presidential candidate.
“The coalition will be stronger if Atiku and Obi come together. Only an Atiku-Obi ticket can defeat the ruling party,” he said.
According to the clergyman, Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, would struggle to secure widespread support outside the Southeast, unlike Atiku who commands significant backing across the North and other regions.
“If Obi is picked as the presidential candidate for the coalition, I don’t see victory. He won’t get the Northerners or Southerners on his side, just the Southeast where he comes from. Only an Atiku-Obi ticket stands a real chance.”
Pastor Giwa also expressed confidence that Atiku, if elected president, would be more likely to support a peaceful transition of power to the Southeast in the future.
“If Atiku becomes the next president, I believe he is more likely to hand over to the Southeast.”
He argued that current political realities make it difficult for a Southeastern candidate to win the presidency, regardless of popularity.
“As things stand, if anyone from the Southeast contests against the ruling party, they won’t allow him to win—no matter how popular he is.”
Pastor Giwa concluded by urging Obi to show political maturity by aligning behind Atiku in the interest of a united opposition.
“If Obi agrees to step down and support Atiku, they are good to go. He tested his popularity in the last election and knows Atiku has more political strength. By joining the coalition, he has already shown willingness to cooperate.”
