The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticized the Presidency’s recent claim that President Bola Tinubu has no plans to extend his tenure beyond 2031, describing the statement as presumptuous and undemocratic.

In a statement released Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC insisted that President Tinubu’s mandate ends in 2027, and expressed confidence that Nigerians will not support any extension of his stay in office beyond that time.

The party also condemned the deteriorating security situation and worsening economic crisis in the country, highlighting the sharp depreciation of the naira as a key concern.

“The naira has collapsed under the APC-led government, pushing millions of Nigerians into extreme poverty,” the ADC stated.

The opposition party further lamented the state of national security, accusing the administration of allowing terrorists, bandits, and criminals to operate with impunity.

“Citizens are kidnapped in broad daylight. Rural communities have become warzones. Insecurity has grown into a national trauma, and the government has shown neither the will nor the capacity to end it,” the statement said.

Economically, the ADC painted a grim picture: “The economy is in free fall. Inflation is skyrocketing, and food prices have tripled in many areas. Jobs are disappearing, and the middle class is vanishing.”

It added, “Businesses that once thrived are collapsing under the burden of punitive taxes and inconsistent policies. Nigerians are now poorer, hungrier, and angrier than before Tinubu assumed office.”

The ADC concluded by urging President Tinubu to focus on governance and prepare to hand over power to a more capable Nigerian come 2027.
