APC Distances Itself from PDP Crisis in Edo, Says Oshiomhole
Senator Adams Oshiomhole of Edo North has clarified that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not involved in the turmoil surrounding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election in Edo State.
Oshiomhole emphasized that according to the law, the APC cannot intervene in the internal conflicts of the PDP regarding its primary elections.
The Abuja Federal High Court recently invalidated the PDP’s primary elections that led to the emergence of Asue Ighodalo as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Edo State. The court’s decision stemmed from the exclusion of 378 delegates, which was deemed unlawful by the PDP.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Oshiomhole stated, “This issue is purely an intra-party matter within the PDP. It underscores the importance of parties adhering to laws that govern the conduct of primaries.”
“According to the law, another party cannot involve itself in intra-party disputes in court,” he added. “Therefore, this is a matter between factions within the PDP, and I believe it should be addressed accordingly.”
Oshiomhole highlighted ongoing divisions within the PDP both before and after their primaries, noting the contentious issues at hand. He mentioned grievances from the PDP legacy group, who allege marginalization within their own party structure.
“The legacy group within the PDP has raised concerns that their preferred candidate has sidelined them, leaving them out in the cold,” Oshiomhole remarked. “As we speak, efforts are ongoing to resolve these internal issues.”
