APC Group Rejects Aiyedatiwa’s Bid to collapse Tinubu Campaign Platforms
A pro-Tinubu support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), has pushed back against a recent directive by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to dissolve all independent campaign groups supporting President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid.
While acknowledging the governor’s intention to unify the party ahead of upcoming elections, GMT emphasized the importance of recognizing and preserving the contributions of diverse political support formations during election seasons.
In a statement issued by Ojo Oyewamide, Director of Media for the Ondo State chapter of GMT, the group highlighted its national presence, stating that it is not merely a product of local politics but operates with established structures in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Oyewamide urged GMT members to disregard the call to merge their structure into a singular, party-controlled platform in Ondo State, noting that the group played a crucial role in supporting Aiyedatiwa’s emergence during the buildup to the 2024 governorship race.
“We are concerned about attempts by some individuals to misrepresent the outcomes of the recent APC caucus meeting by insisting that all support groups must collapse into one state-led structure,” Oyewamide said.
He drew parallels with previous elections in the state, noting that a variety of independent groups—such as LACO-FS, O Datiwa Group, Lucky Disciples, and Partners with Lucky—worked alongside the party to secure a landslide 18–0 victory in the last governorship election.
Oyewamide also cited the example of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s tenure, during which groups like Aketi Mandate Group, Team Aketi, Ibi Giga Ambassadors, and Ajapada were instrumental in delivering electoral success for the APC.
The GMT stressed that independent support groups remain vital assets to any democratic process and should not be sidelined.
