Senator Matthew Uroghide, a two-time representative of Edo South, along with other defectors, has officially shifted allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The formal defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC took place at an event in Benin City on Saturday. Senator Uroghide, describing himself as a foundation member of the APC, expressed his satisfaction in returning to a party of mature politicians, in which he trusts and has confidence in its leaders.

He pledged to contribute to the growth of the party and support its candidates in the 2024 Edo governorship election.

Among the defectors welcomed from the PDP to the APC were former House of Representatives clerk and Owan Federal Constituency candidate for the 2023 election, Patrick Giwa, as well as eight local government chairmen, including Frank Ilaboya of Owan West Local Government Area.

Notable APC leaders, including Senator Adams Oshiomhole and the state executive, were present to receive the new members. During the event, Oshiomhole apologized to Senator Uroghide for past judgments that led to him choosing another aspirant over Uroghide, welcoming him back to the fold.

Oshiomhole praised Senator Uroghide’s robust, resourceful, and determined political stance, highlighting his wealth of experience as valuable to the party’s success.

He then nominated Uroghide as the party’s director-general for the upcoming Edo State governorship election campaign team, a position which the former lawmaker accepted.
