Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has dismissed the possibility of a joint Atiku Abubakar–Peter Obi presidential ticket defeating President Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, Onanuga said the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not view the proposed alliance between the former vice president and the Labour Party flagbearer as a threat.

“They are jumping the gun,” he said. “It’s not yet time for politicking. The merger we had in 2013 wasn’t carried out in this manner. It didn’t distract the government in power.”

He emphasized that while Nigerians are free to form political alliances in a democratic society, the APC remains unshaken.

“As far as the APC is concerned, we don’t see the coalition as a threat. Even if Peter Obi and Atiku merge, they still can’t defeat a Tinubu–Shettima ticket. It’s not going to happen,” Onanuga added.
