Atiku’s Exit Won’t Cripple PDP – Adamawa Chapter Insists
The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that the recent resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the party will not significantly affect its strength or stability.
Speaking on Wednesday evening, the State PDP Chairman, Ahmed Tijani Shehu, acknowledged that Atiku’s departure came as a surprise but emphasized that the party remains strong and resilient.
“Yes, the former Vice President is a great asset, but our party is a formidable structure with deep roots across the country. PDP remains a winning force,” Shehu said.
He also dismissed speculation that the entire PDP structure in Atiku’s native Jada had collapsed following his exit. “To the best of our knowledge, PDP in Jada remains intact. If leaders and members in that ward had left with him, we would have received formal communication at the state headquarters in Yola,” he added.
Atiku’s resignation from PDP became public earlier on Wednesday after a letter confirming his decision surfaced online.
In contrast, a prominent Atiku loyalist, Umar Bello Jada—popularly known as Calculate—claimed that PDP in Jada Local Government Area was effectively defunct, with members shifting allegiance along with Atiku.
“The PDP is a dead party, killed by its own leaders who traded it for personal gain,” Jada said. He argued that Atiku had no option but to seek a new political platform and predicted that many in southern Adamawa would soon defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside the former vice president.
Despite the conflicting narratives, the PDP in Adamawa insists it remains united and prepared for future political challenges.
