Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s capture by “antidemocratic forces.”

In a letter dated July 17, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of Ward 4 in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu announced his immediate departure from the PDP.

“My reason is clear and direct,” he wrote. “Our party has undeniably been seized by antidemocratic elements, both from within and outside, in broad daylight.”

He stated that it was “honourable to relinquish the remains of the party to them,” adding that the majority of disillusioned members were now aligning with a new political coalition — the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Momodu, the publisher of Ovation International and a prominent voice in national discourse, joined the PDP in 2021 and played an active role in its internal affairs and policy debates.

In his resignation letter, he expressed appreciation to the ward leadership for their support over the years.

His defection to the ADC marks a notable development in Edo State’s political dynamics and adds momentum to the shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections. It also follows a wave of resignations by key PDP figures dissatisfied with the party’s internal direction.
