The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) has postponed the local government election from July 6 to November 16.

BSIEC Chairman, Dr. John Chen, announced this to newsmen on Friday in Makurdi. He attributed the change to logistical constraints, explaining that more time was needed to prepare and procure election materials that have not yet been acquired.

“We have begun rescheduling by developing a revised timetable that will include all critical activities and allow sufficient time for adequate preparation. Today marks the issuance of the election notice per Sections 103 (3) and 150 of the Electoral Act 2022, as amended. Detailed guidelines will be released soon,” Chen stated.

He urged all political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to cooperate with the commission to ensure a free and fair election.
