Constitution Review: Rep Member, Philip Agbese Backs Creation of Apa State, New LGAs in Benue’s Zone C
Hon. Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives and member representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, has made a strong case for the creation of a new state and additional local government areas in Benue State’s Zone C.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday ahead of the North Central B Constitutional Review Public Hearing, Agbese emphasized that restructuring through the creation of Apa State and new LGAs would bring governance closer to the people, enhance service delivery, promote economic growth, and strengthen accountability at the grassroots level.
He reaffirmed his full support for the establishment of Apa State and the creation of new local governments within his constituency. These include Avovo, Ari, and Ufia from Ado; Okam and Owukpa from Ogbadibo; and Edumoga Ehaje and Edumoga Itso from Okpokwu.
“By creating new local governments and Apa State, we can bridge the gap between our people and governance, ensuring they receive the attention and resources they deserve,” Agbese stated.
He noted that more localized governance would increase citizen engagement and improve responsiveness. “When you have local governments closer to the people, governance becomes more effective,” he explained.
On the broader push for Apa State, Agbese described it as a long-overdue initiative that would address the unique challenges of Zone C and unlock its untapped potential. “Our region has long been marginalized in resource allocation and infrastructure development. Apa State would give us the autonomy and resources needed to change that narrative,” he said.
Acknowledging that creating new states and LGAs comes with challenges, Agbese expressed confidence that they can be overcome through collective effort and public support.
“We are not naive about the difficulties, but with determination and unity, we can overcome them and build a brighter future,” he asserted.
He called on citizens, traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders to support the initiative and take full advantage of the constitutional review process.
“Let us seize this moment to reshape our future and ensure our constituency receives the recognition and development it deserves,” Agbese concluded.
