Edo APC Chair Urges Police to Arrest PDP Candidate for Alleged Voter Card Forgery

Emperor Jarret Tenebe, the acting chairman of the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest and prosecute the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, for allegedly forging his voter’s card.

In a letter dated July 3rd, Tenebe stated that he was petitioning in his capacity as a voter and law-abiding citizen of Nigeria, concerned about the potential election of an unqualified person.

According to Tenebe, Ighodalo allegedly presented forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the public. He wrote, “Asuerinme Ighodalo has presented the same documents to mislead the general public and claim his party ticket on a fraudulent foundation.”

Tenebe detailed in his petition that Ighodalo presented a voter’s card with VIN no. 90FS B195 4629 6818 630, purportedly issued by INEC at Unit 3 Idiror-Idirior Primary School in Ewohinmi Ward 1, Esan South East Local Government Area, Edo State. However, Tenebe claims this card is not found in any INEC register, attaching a certified true copy of the voter register as evidence.

He believes the voter card being paraded by Ighodalo is forged.

In response, Rev Olu Martins, Deputy Director of Media and Publicity for the Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council, dismissed Tenebe’s claims, stating, “The case is subjudice because one of the aspirants, Anselm Ojezua, is in court on the same issue. Only INEC has the power to declare its documents forged and prosecute. People should not take Tenebe seriously.”

Martins further criticized Tenebe, citing a previous accusation against the impeached former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, for allegedly stealing his wristwatch, suggesting that Tenebe’s current actions are meant to distract from APC’s own candidate issues.
