I won’t vacate office on June 16, Rivers LG Chairman dares Fubara
Dr. Samuel Nwanosike, the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, has made it clear that he will not step down from his position when his tenure ends on June 16.
In a widely circulated video on Thursday, Nwanosike directly addressed Governor Siminalayi Fubara, expressing his decision to stay in office past the specified date.
He justified this by referring to a tenure extension granted by state legislators led by Martin Amaghule, as a response to the state government’s failure to hold local government elections.
In the brief video, Nwanosike confidently stated that he would continue serving as per the directive of the lawmakers.
He issued a strong caution that the residents of Ikwerre LG would strongly oppose any efforts to oust him from his position.
Defiantly, he declared, Let them make an attempt to remove me if they have the courage. The countdown has started with just 23 days remaining.
Nwanosike further questioned the legitimacy of those who doubted Martin Amaewhule’s authority by asking, On what grounds do you claim that Martin Amaewhule is not the Speaker of the Rivers House of Assembly?
If Amaewhule asserts that the governor’s failure to hold local government elections justifies my continuation in office, then I will indeed remain in office as per the regulations in Rivers State.
He cautioned any potential challengers, emphasizing the traditional dress code of white attire, wrapped garments, and Ogbakata accessories in Ikwerre Local Government.
Defiance of this law will not be tolerated. The legislative authority in Nigeria is attributed to Martin Amaewhule. Those bold enough are encouraged to come forward and reveal themselves.
The chairman’s remarks have ignited widespread responses as events progress. He questioned the legitimacy of anyone disputing Martin Amaewhule’s position as Speaker of the Rivers House of Assembly.
If Amaewhule determines that my tenure should continue due to the governor’s negligence in conducting local government elections, then I, Dr Nwanosike Samuel, will uphold my position based on my oath and election certificate for a second term.
This is our stance in Rivers State! We are sending a clear message to those attempting to impose their directives on us regarding attire and behavior – such directives are irrelevant as we adhere strictly to our traditional dress code in Ikwerre Local Government.
Any disregard for this law will be met with consequences. The legislative authority in Nigeria remains vested in Martin Amaewhule’s decisions. Those daring enough are challenged to reveal themselves without fear. Thank you for your attention.
