Imo ADC Inaugurates Local Council Executives in 21 LGAs, Eyes Grassroots Expansion
The Imo State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated Local Council Executive Committee members in 21 of the state’s 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs), marking a significant step in strengthening the party’s grassroots presence.
At the inauguration ceremony held at the party secretariat in Owerri, State Chairman Prof. James Okoroma described the event as the beginning of a fresh journey for ADC’s political engagement at the local level. He affirmed that the party is fully prepared to contest in upcoming elections.
Okoroma explained that six LGAs did not participate in the inauguration due to unresolved issues, emphasizing the party’s commitment to transparency throughout the process.
During the nomination of the LGA executives, the party carefully considered the major political blocs within the state coalition to ensure inclusivity and fairness. Referring to the party constitution, he noted that Article 13 mandates a local government structure composed of Working Committees and Executive Committees, totaling 53 positions.
He encouraged those not yet appointed to exercise patience, assuring that the party’s broad structure has room for everyone.
“Our main focus is to deliver the state from failed leadership, and we are on a mission to achieve that. Today, we have prepared you for the journey ahead,” Okoroma said.
Addressing any grievances, the chairman urged members to resolve disputes internally, reminding them that the party constitution is supreme, as upheld by the Supreme Court.
The inauguration was attended by members of the State Executive Working Committee and other party officials.
