INEC to Resume Continuous Voter Registration in Akwa Ibom Ahead of 2027 Polls
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to commence the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Akwa Ibom State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the state, Mr. Obo Effanga, disclosed this on Wednesday during his maiden press briefing held at the INEC State Headquarters in Uyo.
Effanga revealed that the CVR process will begin with an online pre-registration phase starting on August 18, 2025. Physical, in-person registration will follow from August 25 at INEC offices across all local government areas in the state.
He urged individuals who had previously initiated their registration online to visit the INEC state or local government offices to complete the biometric process, including fingerprint and facial capturing.
“This exercise will also accommodate those seeking to correct errors in their details, transfer their registration to a different location, or collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs),” Effanga explained.
He cautioned against multiple registrations, stating that such actions could lead to the invalidation of a registrant’s data.
“In the event of card loss, individuals should apply for a reprint rather than attempt fresh registration. Duplicate entries are considered illegal and could render a voter’s record void,” he warned.
Effanga also highlighted the convenience of the digital portal, encouraging eligible voters with internet access to take advantage of the online platform for data corrections and transfers.
“If your name was misspelled or there’s a need to update your address, you can do that from the comfort of your home. The portal allows for seamless updates without needing to physically visit our office, except for biometric capture,” he said.
The REC emphasized that the CVR initiative is in line with INEC’s ongoing commitment to improve electoral participation and ensure no eligible voter is left behind ahead of the 2027 elections.
