Kebbi ADC Backs Opposition Coalition, Welcomes Malami’s Defection
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has pledged full support for the emerging opposition coalition, declaring that its political structure remains robust and has grown even stronger following the defection of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
Speaking in an interview in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, the state chairperson of the ADC, Hajiya Hawa’u Muhammad, popularly known as Yar Buga, described the adoption of the ADC as the coalition’s platform as both strategic and timely. She affirmed that the party is ready to receive more like-minded politicians who are committed to “rescuing Nigeria.”
“Our structure, from the ward to the state level, is solid and active. With prominent figures like Malami joining our ranks, the ADC in Kebbi is more prepared than ever to provide a credible alternative to the ruling party,” she said.
Malami Leaves APC Over Insecurity, Economic Decline
According to Nigeria News 247, Malami formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, citing the party’s failure to address worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and poor governance. In a detailed statement, he said his move to the ADC was motivated by a desire to support a coalition focused on national recovery.
“This coalition represents the change Nigerians have been yearning for,” he stated. “We are united by a common purpose and are prepared to make the necessary sacrifices to restore hope to the people.”
Yar Buga: ‘Leadership is About Service, Not Titles’
Yar Buga also expressed her personal commitment to the ADC’s goals, saying she would willingly step down from her position if it served the broader interest of the party and the opposition alliance.
“If the leadership believes a change is needed, I will gladly step aside. This is not about positions—it’s about delivering results,” she added.
The ADC-led coalition recently announced former Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary, as preparations gear up for the 2027 general elections.
