NNPP Kano Chairman Explains Expulsion of Rep Member Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa
The Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Suleiman Hashimu Dungurawa, has defended the party’s decision to expel Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, citing disloyalty and alleged ties to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to reporters, Dungurawa dismissed claims that the lawmaker was not given a fair hearing or an opportunity to defend himself before his expulsion.
“How can you give a chance to someone who went public attacking your party and openly showing his intention to decamp?” he said.
According to the NNPP chairman, Jibrin’s conduct made it clear he was using the party as a stepping stone to secure a political appointment under the APC-led federal government.
“We took the drastic step of expelling Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa from our noble party after it became obvious he was seeking a job in Abuja using our platform,” Suleiman Hashimu Dungurawa stated.
He pointed to a recent interview in which Jibrin allegedly criticized Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, NNPP’s national leader and 2023 presidential candidate, and made it clear he was preparing to leave the party.
“He attacked our leader, insulted the party and its followers. Did we need to wait for him to completely disgrace us before acting? If anything, our response came late,” he added.
Dungurawa made the remarks during a solidarity visit to NNPP leaders, where he was joined by the Special Adviser to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Political Matters, Sunusi Sirajo Madobi. The visit included hundreds of Kwankwasiyya Movement supporters from Kiru, Kofa, and Bebeji, who reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and its leadership.
