NNPP rejects APC victory in Kano Tsanyawa/Ghari Assembly re-run election, heads to court
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano has rejected the results of the Tsanyawa/Ghari State Assembly re-run election, alleging electoral malpractice and vowing to challenge the outcome in court.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a result the NNPP claims was manipulated.
Kano State NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, in a statement, commended voters for their support in the Tsanyawa/Ghari and Shanono/Bagwai constituencies, but criticized the handling of the Tsanyawa/Ghari re-run.
“The manipulations orchestrated against our candidate in Tsanyawa/Ghari cannot be condoned,” Dungurawa said. He claimed that despite a peaceful election in the 10 polling units affected by the Appeal Court ruling, the results were unfairly dismissed.
According to Dungurawa, INEC’s decision to declare the results at its state headquarters instead of at the local collation center created an opportunity for interference. He accused certain politicians of colluding with INEC officials to cancel the re-run votes and reinstate previously nullified results.
“All presiding officers at the polling units had signed off on the results, and only they have the authority to cancel any results — not INEC headquarters,” he emphasized.
Dungurawa also praised the peaceful conduct of the Shanono/Bagwai by-election, noting that its results, which were declared at the appropriate collation center, reflected the will of the people.
He reaffirmed the NNPP’s commitment to fighting election malpractice, favoritism, and what he described as attempts to use “federal might” to disenfranchise Kano voters.
The party has vowed to take the matter to court in pursuit of justice.
