The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced that it will determine whether to join a coalition, contest independently, or support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for August 28.

NNPP National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the meeting will also address several key issues, including preparations for upcoming congresses, the national convention, a review of recent by-elections, and plans for mass mobilisation and new member registration.

Johnson added that ongoing constitutional reviews aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democracy will also be on the agenda.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Johnson emphasized that the party remains open to political options that align with its founding principles and national interest.

“Politics is dynamic, but our actions and decisions must be guided by principles and values,” he said.

He outlined three potential paths for the NNPP: forming an alliance or coalition, contesting the elections independently, or backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election.

“To this extent, NNPP is still considering these options: forming an alliance, running as an individual party, or supporting President Tinubu’s re-election,” Johnson explained.

The party’s spokesman urged members to stay calm and assured that all decisions will prioritize Nigeria’s best interests. He also encouraged active participation in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise and preparation for the nationwide mobilisation and membership drive.
