Obidient Movement Dismisses Rumours of Rift Between Peter Obi and Labour Party Leadership
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has dismissed as unfounded recent speculation suggesting a rift between Peter Obi and the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman.
Responding to concerns raised over Obi’s presence at the campaign flag-off for the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Anambra State, Dr. George Moghalu, Tanko reiterated that the 2023 presidential candidate remains a dedicated and loyal member of the party under Senator Usman’s leadership.
“Peter Obi has consistently maintained that he is a committed member of the Labour Party, led by Senator Nenadi Usman,” Tanko stated. “He has also expressed unwavering support for all candidates who have legitimately emerged through the party’s primaries. Claims that he has betrayed Senator Usman are completely false and are merely tactics by opposition forces to sow discord.”
The rumors surfaced following Obi’s attendance at Moghalu’s campaign launch in Anambra, prompting speculation about internal disagreements within the party.
Tanko clarified that Obi’s actions were fully aligned with party values and supported by key stakeholders, including Senator Usman. “Let’s not lose sight of the fact that Peter Obi is known for his integrity and consistency. His support for Dr. George Moghalu is a reflection of his commitment to the party’s principles,” he added.
He further emphasized that only credible voices within the political space—such as senators, House of Representatives members, and State Assembly representatives—have spoken on the matter, marking what he described as “a clear break from old political habits.”
Tanko urged the public to ignore the rumours, describing them as deliberate misinformation meant to stir unnecessary controversy.
“Our mission remains unchanged—strengthening the Obidient Movement, unifying the Labour Party, and working toward a better Nigeria. And we are firmly on that path,” he concluded.
